Streamlight TLR-7
If you are looking for a light for a carry gun there are some things you should immediately consider. The first is the obvious checkmarks of a good weapon mounted light. Bright enough to perform the task, operation that works for you and your need, and a fuel source that makes sense for the application. The one that most people forget to investigate is holster compatibility.
With each of those filters in mind, my preferred weapon mounted light for my carry gun is the Streamlight TLR-7. The light is powered by a single CR123 battery which I have an abundance of. The original model is 500 lumens which is more than enough for the application and newer models are even brighter. The switches on the back make sense and are easy to burn in reps. The single tap for constant light and hold for temporary is intuitive and gives the shooter some options without a complicated button layout. Most importantly, my preferred carry holster (The T-Rex Arms Sidecar) is compatible with a G19 and TLR-7. There is no point in investing in a system that holster companies aren't adapting to.
While I like the TLR-7 for concealed carry, I do not think it makes a good duty WML. The single CR123 keeps the profile low but you do lose out on battery capacity. The thin profile will not help out in a Safariland duty holster that is built like a bucket. In addition, EDC gear tends to be inspected and serviced at a better rate compared to duty equipment. Thousands of cops start their shift without ever checking the condition of their weapon. Less battery life is not something they need.
Overall, the TLR-7 is a solid EDC WML. The thin profile means you wont feel the size increase all that much making it comfortable to carry. And best of all, it's priced like a Streamlight and not a Surefire.
